Welcome to Healthy Kids Ohio

Healthy Kids Ohio is an initiative to assist practitioners in responding effectively to the epidemic of childhood obesity in Ohio.  It is rooted in the program Healthy Ohio, a vision of the state to ensure optimal health for all Ohioans. Healthy Kids Ohio helps practitioners develop office systems to prevent, identify, evaluate and treat overweight and obesity in children.  This work is based on a pilot project that will now have greater population impact through collaboration with the statewide Ohio Ounce of Prevention program (the Ohio chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Ohio Children's Hospital Association)  and the Hamilton County WeTHRIVE! program.

Healthy Kids Ohio and Ounce of Prevention (HKO-OP) is a improvement collaboration between two statewide initiatives from the Ohio Department of Health.  One was created to partner with Ohio's community health centers to; prevent, identify and treat childhood overweight and obesity, and to build capacity for treatment.  The other was developed to utilize the Ounce of Prevention materials, which provide primary care physicians simple tools to educate parents in obesity prevention strategies through nutrition and physical activity, in all practices that care for children. WeTHRIVE! Hamilton County Healthy Kids Ohio Learning Collaborative is a primary care practice improvement collaborative created to help primary care practices test and implement proven concepts for improving obesity screening, assessment and management.
